Xyron is the manufacturer of most cold laminators and 3rd parties for companies like Varitronics® / Variquest® and 3M/Scotch. The ProFinish is a proprietary laminator virtually identical to Xyron’s own 25″ wide cold laminator called the 2500. Both laminators use the IDENTICAL film except the ProFinish is 24″ wide, the Xyron 2500 is 25″ wide. The ProFinish laminate is a sole source product and thus customers pay substantially more for the identical product as the Xyron 2500 film. This is typical of Varitronics / Variquest. They create proprietary systems so their supplies can be purchased theoretically through their authorized dealers. Unfortunately customers who purchased their proprietary systems pay more than others who have shopped and compared.

Do your homework before buying these branded systems. You’ll be glad you did.
Remember, it’s not always what you pay for the laminators, it’s what you’re paying for the refills. Regardless of getting a great deal, if your laminate is more costly, you’ll pay for it in the end. Compare prices, ask questions. You’ll be glad you did.
